Legality of Crossing the Line

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Legality of Crossing the Line
I am currently attempting to gather information concerning what would happen if a Japanese baseball player violated his contract in order to play in the States. In one of the postings (Oct. 12, 2002) [Link], you [Robert Whiting] wrote that you were waiting for the day that something like this may happen. There, you wrote that the team would naturally file an injunction in a U.S. Court, and that according to MLBPA lawyers, they would lose on anti-trust or constitutional grounds.

Do you have any specific information on the legal arguments that the MLBPA lawyers based their decision on? If not, is there any place I can go to find such information. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
