Godzilla on Three Game Rampage
The Giants' Hideki Matsui has hit home runs in his last three games, two last night (July 27) to come within two of top running Roberto Petagine (Yakult) who leads the Central League with 25.

In fact, over the past three games, Matsui has overtaken Makoto Imaoka (Hanshin - .332), Kosuke Fukudome (Chunichi - .330), and a couple others to take over the leading batter position. Furthermore, he is now one RBI shy of Alex Ramirez to round out his Triple Crown bid.

When Matsui hit #20 last Thursday (July 25), it marked Matsui's 9th consecutive year with 20 home runs or more. He's the 15th player to do it. Current team-mate Akira Etoh needs 10 more in the second half to streach his streak of 20 or more homers to 10 years in a row.

Four Games and 2-Kan

With last night's game (July 28) at Jingu tied 3-3 in the top of the 9th, Godzilla led off the inning with a solo shot the other way (to left) to put the Giants on top 4-3. That stretched his home run hitting streak to four games, matching a personal high which he's done three times before, the last time being June of 1999.

Petagine hit his 26th home run of the year in Yakult's three run sixth, so Matsui remains two short of him. But the home run and RBI in the 9th matched Ramirez with 58 RBIs, putting Matsui on top in two of the three Triple Crown categories.

Godzilla hit two more in last nights game (Jul.31). Matsui and the Giants are on fire. They seem to be unbeatable. Chikusho!

Godzilla on Nine Game Rampage

Over the past two weeks, Godzilla increased his rampage to 9 games, hitting 9 home runs over that span. What's more, he's now taken over the lead in all three Triple Crown categories. At the end of play on Sunday (August 4), the top three in each category are:

Batting Average
.399 Matsui Hideki (YG)
.3323 Fukudome Kosuke (CD)
.3322 Iwamura Akinori (YS)

RBIs
65 Matsui Hideki (YG)
59 Tatsunami Kazuyoshi (CD)
58 Alex Ramirez (YS)

Home Runs
28 Matsui Hideki (YG)
27 Roberto Petagine (YS)
19 George Arias (HT)

Other than his 0 for 3 when when Kawakami no-hit the Giants a few days ago, Matsui has been on a tear in this summer heat.
