SK Wyverns pummeled China's national team 13-0 in a game that was called after 6 1/2 innings on account of the mercy rule Friday at Tokyo Dome.
The Wyverns head into Saturday evening's game against Taiwan's Uni-President Lions with a perfect 2-0 record in the four-team Konami Cup Asia Series.
The Japan Series champion Chunichi Dragons, who lost 6-3 to SK Wyverns on Thursday, were still playing the Lions in the late game Friday night as the IHT/ Asahi went to press.
Choi Jeong was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Korean champions and Lee Ho Joon had a pair of RBIs. Former Hiroshima Carp right-hander Mike Romano got the win, allowing three hits through five innings. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
China starter Chen Junyi took the loss. He lasted just three innings, giving up three hits, five runs (two earned) and issuing five walks.
"Today was an ugly day," said China manager Jim Lefebvre, who saw his team fall to 0-2 with the loss.
