Bill Pulsipher in CPBL
Former Major League pitcher Bill Pulsipher has been signed by the President Lions and assigned to their farm club. The 33 year old left hander has a 13-19 record with a 5.16 ERA in 106 Major League games. In 2005 Pulsipher split time with the Springfield Cardinals and Memphis Redbirds of the Double A Texas League and Triple A Pacific Coast League, respectively.

Before being signed by a Major League organization Pulsipher pitched with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. His 6-7 mark and 4.49 ERA in 25 games with the Redbirds resulted in a callup to the St. Louis Cardinals where he appeared in 5 games in relief.

The Lions need a pitcher as both Bryant Nelson and Luis Ugueto are batting .207 and .231 respectively.

Pulse was one of the Mets "Young Guns" in their farm system in the early '90s, with Jason Isringhausen, and Paul Wilson. All three developed arm trouble and never capitalized on their phenom status, though Issy turned into a very fine closer.

So now he is playing in Taiwan?

Yup. Pulsipher pitched a complete game in a losing effort in which he surrendered six runs, five earned, on ten hits in eight innings in his first start for the Lions farm team. He walked one and struck out nine batters. I guess the bullpen doesn't really matter as Pulsipher threw 139 pitches.

I was a big Pulsipher fan. I always wished he would come back and pitch, but he is off for the Mets.

How do you get these updated stats for Pulsipher? Is the farm team you speak of the equivalent of a MLB minor league team? What level? Thanks.

Well yes, the farm teams in Taiwan would be considered lower level minor league teams as the skill level of the CPBL ranges from AAA-A.

Any idea of how Bill Pulsipher is doing and what his stats are?

Pulse wins his third in a row: "...in a 5-1 decision behind a strong effort by American lefty Pulsipher. The former major leaguer took a shutout into the seventh inning on five scattered singles and seven strikeouts before yielding a run in the inning on a groundout by Amaury Garcia after two Cobras had reach via two poorly-hit balls that resulted in back-to-back infield singles."

Pulse went eight innings.

Bill Pulsipher won again, record is now 4-0, and that is 4 wins in a row - he went 8 innings in a 9 to 1 win for the Lions. He gave up 6 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4. The Lions are now in first place after 14 wins in a row.

Here is an article from the Taipie Times on May 23, 2005.
Bill Pulsipher of the US was rock solid in his Taiwanese debut with eight innings of two-run ball (one earned) on seven hits and four strikeouts for the Lions. But the former major leaguer was not able to pick up the win despite the quality start as the Lions offense struck one inning too late, handing the victory to reliever Lin Yueh-pin instead. Lin worked a one-hit ninth for the win to improve to 3-4 this year.
Let's hope Bill can keep it going. Any other news out there?

Bill is pitching tonight, currently in the 6th inning. Lions and Bears are still 0-0.

Pulsipher has pitched 49 pitches with 3K and 2H.

Thanks for the information on today's game. Hopefully Bill carried the performance to a win for the Lions. Is he pitching for the parent club or the farm team, and is there an on-line source to get the information?

He pitched the complete game shutout and beat the "violent" La New Bears, which features the most prolific offense in CPBL now.

Joe, that's great news. I appreciate the update on Bill Pulsipher. I know very little about the CPBL, but want to follow Bill as he yet again attempts to give rebirth to his career in baseball.

Kudos and best wishes to Pulse. He is a long way from home, but giving it his all for the love of the game.

139 pitches? Yikes!

Here a little more on Bill Pulsipher and the Lions:
A 9-1 record by the Lions in their last 10 contests, coupled with the Bears' 5-5 mark over the same span is the main the reason that the Lions have regained their "rulers of the south" distinction, thanks to a tremendous effort from the Lions pitchers Eric Cyr of Canada (3-0 in his last three starts and a 1.08 ERA), Bill Pulsipher of the US (1-0 in his last three games with an ERA of 0.5), and Lin Yueh-ping of Taiwan (2-0 in his last five relief appearances with no earned runs).

Sounds like so far so good for Bill.

Bill Pulsipher is released by Lions due to a "possible" marijuana problem.

If so, it seems Pulsipher hasn't learned from the past, as Pulsipher had the same problem with the Mets back in 2002.

Bill has now signed on with the Long Island Mighty Ducks, an independent league team back in the U.S. Todd Erdos, who recently joined the CPBL, was previously with the Mighty Ducks.
