China Baseball League Folds

Discussion in the Baseball Asia forum
China Baseball League Folds
I read somewhere online that the China Baseball League has folded because they couldn't come up with sponsors for the 2012 season. Most of the Japanese sponsors pulled out in 2009 and '10.

A national team will still participate in the Asia Series and World Baseball Classic.

Thank you for that report.

My impression was that SoftBank and other Japanese teams/companies were trying to make inroads into China by helping to jump start the China Baseball League (CBL). Then Major League Baseball (MLB) came striding in with their global ambitions, pushing the grass roots Japanese sponsors out.

The press releases about CBL coming out of MLB had long disturbed me as I saw more rhetoric along the lines of mining for gems than developing a self-sufficient league.
