That's less money per year than the current deal. Am I missing something here?

That's a very good question.

Monetarily, it does appear to be less than the 3-year, NT$1.5 billion deal they got with Videoland Network in 1997. But that was 17 years ago and covered, wasn't it 6 or 8 teams at the time? As the number of teams slowly dwindled, so did the number of games and, I would imagine, the overall price of the deal. Unfortunately, I don't recall seeing any news about the more recent television rights deals. Do you know what the current deal is worth?

But more important than the rights deal is the possibility of expanding TV rights to more regions, both within Taiwan out outside. That could result in bringing in more fans which would contribute to secondary revenue for the teams. That'd be what MP & Silva will be banking on, I'm sure.

Given that the Asian Winter League games were broadcast live on YouTube, does the CPBL broadcast any of it's regular season games online like that?

I know that I've seen CPBL games live on Justin.TV. But I don't think that those are officially sanctioned, and they aren't available for later viewing.

One can hope that this new distributor has joined the 21st Century and will think to put things online. But nothing I've read so far suggests that it's anything but a traditional distributor, and they're still deathly afraid of the Internet despite all the evidence that they should be embracing it.
