Ugueto was suspended 50 games last year for violating the MLB drug policy. He was playing for AAA Omaha of the Royals' organization while using illegal substances.

This season both Brito and Izquierdo played in the Triple-A Mexican League. 34 year old Brito batted .324 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs for Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz while 29 year old right handed pitcher Izquierdo was 9-6 with a 2.92 ERA in 18 games with Cafeteros de Cordoba. In 2002 he pitched in 20 games with the Florida Marlins.
Brito is no stranger to baseball in Asia having played five years in the Korea Baseball Organization. With this signing, Luis Ugueto's days as a Lion are numbered.
A day before his release, Cyr had asked the Lions for a one week hiatus so that he would be able to aid Canada's bid for a spot in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Cyr was one of the better foreign pitchers as he was 9-5-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 19 games.
Both Ugueto and Cyr have had shady backgrounds. Ugueto for drug abuse and Cyr for sexual assault. Read the Wikipedia article - it only gets weirder.
