Ichiro's Commercial

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Ichiro's Commercial
On ESPN they occasionaly shows a commercial featuring Ichiro speaking in Japanese. The name of the ad is called "I live for this." I'm just wondering, does anyone have this video on their computer, and/or can tell me what exactly are Ichiro's quotes in the commercial?

"Asuriito to shite wa, yakyuu no paafekuto ga dekiru to iu no wa saikou na mono da tte boku wa kangaete-imasu."

Literately, it's, "As an athlete, to be able to do a 'perfect' in baseball is the best thing, I'm thinking."

I put it in natural English thusly: "I think that, as an athlete, achieving perfection in baseball is the greatest thing."

Did anyone see the Seattle Mariners' ad with Ichiro? Ichiro is reading a fan letter from a girl in Spokane; he autographs a ball and tosses it from his Seattle area home; and the ball lands on the Spokane girl's front porch.

Last year, Ichiro is shown batting against the Oakland A's. The Athletics bring out the entire dugout and bullpen to cover the field. Ichiro still gets a hit and he exclaims "You gotta hit 'em where they ain't."

These were on the Mariners' MLB site and on TV.

CFiJ,

Just want to give you huge props for understanding the Japanese language. You have mastered the Japanese language really well. Are you similar to Dave Spector?

I was particularily impressed when you picked up some Japanese spelling errors in the book by Robert Whiting, "The Meaning of Ichiro."
