Dice-K Dominates D-Rays for 10th Win

Dice-K Dominates D-Rays for 10th Win
Daisuke Matsuzaka's first start of the month of July turned out to be his best yet, continuing the run of great pitching he had in June. The good news is that this time the Red Sox offense didn't let him down, giving him 4 runs, more than enough to set down the punchless Devil Rays order. Matsuzaka went 8 innings, giving up no runs on 4 hits, striking out 9, and walking only 1.

In his last 6 starts, Matsuzaka has alternated 8 and 9-strikeout performances, moving him up to 3rd place in the American League in the san-shin category, and he has also lowered his ERA to 3.53.

The other Japanese player in this game, former Yakult Swallows member Akinori Iwamura, was 1-for-4, striking out 3 times.

I think Matsuzaka's ERA for the past 5 starts is under 0.30 now, but I'm not sure. It's around there.

I watched it on TV. He pitched a great game. He looks more relaxed and seems to control his pitches better.

But the big news is his CD. They played a little between innings.

Today the Boston newspaper writers (who can turn on you faster than a northeastern storm) have now said they don't see how he can miss winning 20 games. Anything from these guys are a kiss of death. They are the worst home team writers in America.

I couldn't have said it any better myself, Joe. Boston sportswriters are the wildest spin doctors I've ever laid eyes on.
