Question on Kaz Matsui

Question on Kaz Matsui
I have a simple question:

I know Kaz Matsui is looked at as a leadoff hitter here in the U.S. But did Kaz Matsui lead off this past season in Japan? If not, where did he hit?

Thanks.

My understanding is he hit 3rd.

According to the Kami-J site, Matsui Kazuo batted lead-off 128 times, 3rd 12 times. [Link]

Ichiro has said Kazuo Matsui is faster than him, so I wouldn't doubt that Art Howe would let him lead-off next year. And below is the possible 2004 opening day line-up for the Amazing Mets. Although Sanders/Cameron hasn't signed with them as expected:
    Kazuo Matsui, SS
    Jose Reyes, 2B
    Mike Piazza, C
    Cliff Floyd, LF
    Reggie Sanders, RF
    Mike Cameron, CF
    Jason Phillips, 1B
    Ty Wigginton, 3B
    Tom Glavine, P
