Igawa's Yankee Press Conference

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Igawa's Yankee Press Conference
Igawa was introduced at a press conference yesterday in New York and MLB.com has it available for those who want to watch.

For those who have watched it, I'm sure you noticed that the Yankees made sure to get a hold of a competent translator, especially after the pathetic job that Matsuzaka's translator did. Not only did the translator do a good job of "translating" but he also elaborated the questions / answers to convey the actual meaning of the answers (something that often gets lost in translation).

I know, talking about the translators is not for this forum. But, it just annoys me to see that 95% of the translators that are used (including those that help during the "hero interviews" in Japan), speak English as well as a student in his first Nova class.

Entry level jobs in the entertainment industry don't pay well because there are so many people willing to take those jobs for low pay, and I reckon it's the same with translators and interpretors. Still, it doesn't change the fact that they often stink.
