Igawa to Yankees

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Igawa to Yankees
Today's (Nov. 29) New York Times reports that the New York Yankees have submitted the highest proposal to talk exclusively with Hanshin Tigers left-hander Kei Igawa. The winning bid was $26 million. The Yankees now have until midnight December 28 to negotiate a MLB contract with Igawa-san.

As much as I love Igawa, and most of my life have been a Yankees fan too, I have mixed feelings about Igawa's prospects for success on such a high-profile team. NY fans can be extremely fickle, and unreasonably greedy for instant gratification (anybody can get booed there on a bad day). Igawa strikes me as a somewhat sensitive character, gifted, yet at times, inconsistent too. Obviously it will help to have the steadfast Matsui as a team mate. Anyway, Igawa, ganbatte, and we torakichitachi send all our good wishes your way.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
