Racist Comments
If you haven't heard, Cubs' minor leaguer Jae-Kuk Ryu, a South Korean native, tried to harm a bird the other day. I didn't like his action, but I'm very very disappointed that a bigot couldn't shut his trap [TopProspectAlert.com].

I think that illustrates why some forums, like this one, are closely moderated. OK, so it might take a few hours for your contributions to be posted, but at least all the fevered rantings are filtered out (kansha to Westbaystars-san), and it doesn't degenerate into "Orix sux!" "Oh yeah?! Well Daiei sux even more, and Jojima is a *#$%!"
Moderation

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Every time I start thinking of letting the forum open up, I get hit with a number of spammers trying to post ads for... well... I'm sure you've seen them all already in your inbox. Racists attempt to post here about twice a month, but leave after they see their comments evaporate without anyone seeing them.

But the main reason I continue moderating is actually due to the inability of some people to use the shift key and capitalize proper nouns and the beginning of sentences. And "133t" speak doesn't do anything for me.

Furthermore, not everyone's native language is English, so I do what I can to fix grammar (can't always help with spelling ) to prevent personal attacks like those I've seen on other mailing lists. It makes everything a little more generic, but also a bit more readable.

What an ignorant ....

Just to expose him, his name is Doug Cook, 23, from Ft. Wayne Indiana.

After reading about the Ryu incident, I just knew someone from Idaho would make some racist remark about Cambodians!!! Tell me about ignorance.

America is the land of bigots and/or prejudice. If Ryu or anybody doesn't like to be called "chink" or "gook," he or she should go back to his or her country. Ryu wouldn't be called "gook" or some other racist names, if he were in his home country.

[by westbaystars: I had a hard time deciding to approve or reject this message. On the one hand, it's almost sure to lead to a flame war - which I'd rather avoid. On the other hand, it's pointing out the obvious - that the U.S. isn't as open as it advertises. Foreigners in Japan need to have thick skin sometimes, too. Let's just try to leave it at that, shall we?]
