The Tacoma News Tribune reports of Bud Selig's plans to schedule regular season games in Europe in July 2004. Italy is the favored site due to better facilities and fan base.

Good news if you ask me - spreading the baseball word far and wide. Inch by inch, we creep closer to a true World Cup, with teams from all the baseball powerhouses, as well as countries that you didn't even know existed.

The March 18, 2003 Taipei Times [Link] has further information from the Associated Press concerning MLB's plans. The article in entitled "Baseball Chiefs Plan Conquest of Europe."

Personally, I take a wait and see attitude. Major League teams have been taking trips to Europe and around the world since the late 1800s. Some seeds grew and prospered; others sprouted a little; others withered.
