I'm not sure if the Reds were the best team for Rhodes to sign with.

They have non-roster invitees, Jacob Cruz and Quinton McCracken who both will fight for outfield spots. Both, of them also played full years last year.

Also, the Reds have newly-acquired Tony Womack, who played outfield with the Yankees last year. Along with 2005 Reds' Minor League Player of the Year Chris Denorfia, who had a great year in AA Chattanooga and AAA Louisville, along with the Arizona Fall League. Also, Ryan Freel figures to get time in the outfield.

Was he hurt last season? I was really disappointed when I went to a Giants game and he didn't play.

Hopefully he performs, and when he does, hopefully the Reds' management will give him more of a chance than the BoSox gave to Petagine.

An inauspicious end to a great NPB player. It's really a shame. Discarded like an old Maku Donarudo wrapper. At 37, he will have a tough time making an impact with the Reds. He should have signed with an AL team so he could DH.

Where is Petagine now? If he can perform, he will get a chance somewhere.

The Reds released outfielder Tuffy Rhodes. This is inevitable after his poor performance during the spring training games. No Japanese team is likely to offer him a contract, so his playing career seems to be over now.
