Brewers, Ohka to Go to Arbitration

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Brewers, Ohka to Go to Arbitration
The Brewers and starting pitcher Tomokazu Ohka failed to agree on terms on a contract for 2006. Ohka wanted a raise to $5.2 million (USD) and the Brewers countered with a $4.25 million (USD) counter-offer. Both sides were $950,000 (USD) off.

As a result of both sides failing to come to terms, both sides will go in front of an independent arbitrator somewhere between February 1-21th. The Brewers and Ohka can still talk on a contract before the arbitration date. Ohka went 11-9 with a 4.01 ERA in 32 games with the Nationals and Brewers last year.

Only, two Japanese players have gone to arbitration. Ohka went while he was then Montreal Expos, and Hideo Nomo went while he was the New York Mets. Both reached a agreement before the schudeled arbitration date.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
