Ichiro's free agent status

Discussion in the Nichi-Bei forum
Ichiro's free agent status
Assuming Ichiro doesn't sign an extension with Seattle (I suspect he will but please bear with me on this), will he be a free agent after the 2003 season or will he be eligible for arbitration only? His current contract will be up, but he will have played in only three MLB seasons instead of the usual six that are required to qualify for free agency. I guess my question boils down to this: Are players acquired through the posting system treated the same way as players acquired through the draft or are they treated as free agents?
