Happy Birthday Julio Franco!
The former Chiba Lotte Marine is 47 years old, hitting .299 with 40 RBIs and 9 homers in a part time role with Atlanta.

That guy is old but he's still productive. I'm surprised he's only around 2,500 hits.

He hasn't played something close to a full season in the majors since 1993(!) with Texas, so maybe it's not so surprising. His last 4 seasons with Atlanta have been an amazing resurgence though, definitely. And he's not really 47, is he? :-P [ESPN Stats]

Braves' manager Bobby Cox had a interesting comment about Julio Franco's hit total a while back:
Counting his hits abroad and those he's totaled in the Majors he's totaled 3,259 hits. I think those should count, too. Those are their major leagues. [Full Story - MLB.com]
Franco's baseball journey has definetly been a good one; two successful trips in Japan (1995, 98), Korea (2000), and Mexico(2001).
