South Korea has always prided itself as a baseball world power, but now finds that respect will have to be earned the hard way.

With the defeat to bitter rival Japan in the Olympic qualifiers Sunday, the South Korean national baseball team is now required to prevail in an eight-nation playoff series in March that stakes three spots in the Beijing tournament.
