KBO Attendance Low

Discussion in the KBO News forum
KBO Attendance Low
The KBO's attendance appears to be pretty low (6,000 a game). Is there any specific reason for this? Small stadiums, lack of stars, losing popularity? Also, is baseball in Korea losing popularity to soccer, or is it the other way around?

I'm not too knowledgeable about the KBO, but I do read the following three sites daily in an attempt to learn something about the league:
  • Dong-A - Updated with a headline or two daily from the Korean sports scene. Has an article every now and then about the KBO.
  • Yonhap News - Culture/Sports with an emphasis on culture and politics. Just about every time I'm ready to remove it from my bookmarks, they come out with a KBO story - but very rarely. The site is updated about once a week.
  • The Korea Times - Updated several times a week, usually features baseball at least once during that time span. However, more often then not it's Korean players in the Majors that are being highlighted, not KBO. The paper's editor heavily favors soccer.
There had been a couple of other sites that had KBO information, but they keep disappearing and/or not being updated. In discussing KBO stats with one person in Korea, I was told that the KBO actually asked him to stop putting up information in English. It's almost as though the KBO doesn't want anyone outside of Korea to know about the league. (NPB isn't much better, but they haven't told me to stop.)

If anyone knows of better news (or even blog) sites in English for KBO, I'm all ears.

The Korean Baseball Organization regular season attendance hit an all-time low of 4,384 per game in 2004. The highest was 10,727 per game in 1995.

I think the KBO's attendance is actually up this year from last year. They are doing pretty well IMO.

4 out of the 8 teams are averaging 10,000 or above. not too bad.
