KBO Highlights and Standings (week of April 13)
The April 14, 2003 Korea Times [Link] highlights Sunday's games.

The Kia Tigers and Samsung Lions continue to go undefeated after eight games each.

The Samsung Lions were led by Ma Hae-young's league leading fourth home run in the Lions win over the Hanwha Eagles 7-2. Bae Young-soo struck out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings to get the win.

The April 16, 2003 Korea Times [Link] reports on KBO action.

Samsung Lions outfielder Yang Joon-hyuk hit for the cycle while going 4 for 5. Yang leads the league with a .452 BA. The Lions remain undefeated beating the Unicorns 11-4.

The April 17, 2003 Korea Times [Link highlights on the latest KBO games.

Ma Hae-young hit a ninth inning home run to lift the Samsung Lions past the Hyundai Unicorns 7-6 in Suwon.

The Lions remain undefeated at 10-0 and at the opposite end, the Lotte Giants are 0-10.

The April 18, 2003 Korea Times [Link reports on KBO game highlights.

Hyundai Unicorns pitcher Shane Bowers held the Samsung Lions to two hits in 7 2/3 innings. The Lions suffered their firts defeat of the 2003 season in losing 5-1 to the Unicorns.

The Lotte Giants remain winless with a 0-11 record.

The April 20, 2003 Korea Times [Link] highlights Saturday's KBO action.

Lee Seung-yeop blasted a tape measure three run homer in the ninth inning hit to lift the Samsung Lions past the SK Wyverns 7-5 in Inchon. Lee came up to bat with two men on and two outs with the Lions behind 5-4.

The Lotte Giants finally didn't lose a game in 12 tries in 2003. The Giants tied the first game of a double-header with the Hanwha Eagles in Taejon 3-3. Lotte did lose the second game of the twin-bill 3-2. The Giants remain winless with 12 losses and one tie.

The April 21, 2003 Korea Times [Link] reports on the Lotte Giants' first win after twelve losses and one tie for 2003. The Giants trounced the Hanwha Eagles 9-0 in Taejon.

The April 23, 2003 Korea Times [Link] highlights Tuesday's KBO action.

Samsung Lions 4 - Kia Tigers 2:
Lee Seung-yeop hit two home runs in Taegu. Lee's third home run in two games moved him into the KBO home run lead with six. Teammate Ma Hae-young has five home runs for 2003. Lim Chang-yong (3-0) struck out eight Tiger batters in 6 2/3 innings.

Hyundai Unicorns 6 - Hanwha Eagles 3:
Chong Min-tae (3-0) struck out seven in five innings. Reliever Cho Yong-joon picked up his fifth save.

Doosan Bears 2 - LG Twins 0:
Michael Coolbaugh hit a solo homer in the off losing pitcher Lee Seung-ho (1-2) in Seoul. The Bears' Lee Kyung-pil (2-1) pitched six innings while giving up three hits and two walks. The KBO's first Japanese pitcher, Satoshi Iriki, notched his first save.

Lotte Giants 5 - SK Wyverns 3:
The Lotte Giants won their second game of 2003 in Pusan. Yeom Jong-seok (1-3) pitched six innings allowing one run, six hits, and four walks.

The April 24, 2003 Korea Times [Link] reports on Wednesday's KBO games.

Hyundai Unicorns 9 - Hanhwa Eagles 2:
Shane Bowers (3-0) struckout five batters pitched in seven innings to lead the Unicorns past the Eagles in Suwon. Bowers gave up two runs, five hits, and two walks. Ex-NPB pitcher Jung Min-chul took the loss for the Eagles. The fourth inning saw the Unicorns bring 11 hitters to the plate to score six runs on six hits.

LG Twins 13 - Doosan Bears 4:
The Twins trounced the Bears in Chamsil behind Lee Byung-kyu's four hits and three runs as the Twins. Reliever Jeon Seung-nam pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win. Jeon has a shutout streak of 20 1/3 innings and has not allowed a run in 2003. Cha Myung-joo was the losing pitcher for the Bears.

The Lotte Giants emerged from the KBO cellar without having to play.

The April 25th Korea Times [Link] highlights Thursday's KBO action.

Samsung Lions 3 - Kia Tigers 3:
Ma Hae-young home run off Tigers pitcher Mark Kiefer tied him with Samsung Lion teammate Lee Seung-yeop for the 2003 KBO home run lead with six. Ma's home run only helped the Lions and Tigers end the game in a tie at Taeju.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain.

Hyundai Unicorns 3 - Hanwha Eagles 2:
Micah Franklin and Shim Jong-soo hit back to back first inning home runs to lead the Unicorns to thier sixth staright victory. The Unicorns' closer Cho Yong-joon notched his sixth save in the game played at Suwon.

SK Wyverns 8 - Lotte Giants 4,
SK Wyverns 7 - Lotte Giants 7:
Wyverns pitcher Kim Sang-jin (2-0) won the first game with a five inning performance that yielded four runs and four hits.

The second game in Pusan ended in a tie after 12 innings that lasted four hours and 45 minutes. Cho Sung-hwan blasted a two-run homer and went 5-for-6. The Giants had 17 hits but left 13 runners on base.

Doosan Bears 6 - LG Twins 4:
The Bears' relief pitcher Jung Sung-hoon (1-0) gave up one hit and no runs in 1 1/3 innings for the win. Jung's last win was in August of 1999 when he was pitching for the Lions in a game against the Bears.

The Giants returned to the cellar with their loss and tie.

The April 27, 2003 Korea Times [Link] reports on Saturday's KBO games.

SK Wyverns 3 - Hanwha Eagles 0:
Lee Seung-ho (1-0) had eight strikeouts and gave up seven hits and two walks to shutout the Hanwha in the first game of a double-header.

SK Wyverns 5 - Hanwha Eagles 1:
The Wyverns gave Eagles pitcher Song Jin-woo (1-4) his fourth loss of 2003 in the second game in Inchon.

Hyundai Unicorns 5 - Lotte Giants 2:
Shim Jong-soo hit a three-run homer to lead the Unicorns over the Giants in the first game in Pusan.

Hyundai Unicorns 4 - Lotte Giants 3:
The Unicorns beat the Giants in the second game with help from a ninth inning error by Giants shortstop Park Ki-hyuk. Hyundai pitcher Kwon Joon-heon became the second player in KBO history to win both games of a double-header. Cho Yong-joon got the saves in both games. Hyundai are now in second place in the KBO and have won eight games in a row.

Doosan Bears 5 - Kia Tigers 3:
The Tigers lost to the Bears in the first game in Kwanju. Lee Jong-beom hit home runs in two consecutive at-bats in the losing cause.

Kia Tigers 5 - Doosan Bears 3:
The Bears' Michael Coolbaugh also hit home runs in two consecutive innings for the losing team in the second game of the double-header.

Samsung Lions 7 - LG Twins 2:
The Samsung Lions had 12 hits to beat the Twins in the first game.

LG Twins 6 - Samsung Lions 0:
Kim Kwang-sam (1-0) pitched five innings to win his first game in four years due to military service. Narciso Elvira (1-1) gave up four runs in the second game.
