センバツ連覇を狙う常葉学園菊川野球部は４日、同じく全国大会に出場する女子ソフトボール部、空手道部とともに、菊川市役所に太田順一市長を表敬訪問した。前田隆一主将（２年）は「もう１度、菊川旋風を巻き起こして、連覇できるように頑張ります」とＶ２を宣言。太田市長は「菊川市民５万人、静岡県民３８０万人が応援しています」と応じ、奨励金１００万円を授与した。
