身を切られるような涙の本塁打だった。横浜村田が９回２死、本塁打王争い単独トップに立つ３６号ソロを放った。だが、笑顔はなし。ベンチに戻ると、目頭をぬぐった。「打ってつらい本塁打でした。こんな本塁打を打ったことはない。生涯初めてです」。投手は引退試合の広島佐々岡。９回２死からの登板に、村田が当たってしまった。
