また９年目の捕手、加藤健（２６）が救った。０－１で迎えた７回、巨人は二岡、清水の適時打で逆転。さらに加藤が横浜寺原からプロ１号３ランを放ち、試合を決めた。試合前、阿部慎之助捕手（２８）が背中の痛みを訴えるアクシデントが発生。ベンチ入り捕手２人で控えの加藤を起用。首脳陣は元捕手のベテラン木村拓に“捕手”の準備をさせるなど対応に追われたが、１４日の広島戦（東京ドーム）で９回起死回生の同点打を放った加藤がまた大仕事をやってのけた。中２日で先発した高橋尚が１４勝目を飾った。
