巨人が日本シリーズ出場を争うクライマックスシリーズ進出へのマジック「１７」を点灯させた。天王山第１ラウンドを落とし、中日に３連敗なら自力Ｖ消滅の危機に立たされていた巨人は木佐貫洋投手（２７）が５回まで完全投球の好投。８回２安打１失点で自己新の１１勝目を飾り、３－１で中日に雪辱した。この日４位横浜が敗れ、巨人は横浜との残り４試合に敗れても、残る１７試合に勝てば同シリーズ進出を決める。
