前夜は遅くまでテレビ出演をこなし、疲れもあったはずだが「同じリズムで同じ練習をして、毎日試合に臨むだけ」と、この日も日課の早出特打。一回に先制打を放ち「２００１本目を早く打たないと、変な重圧になりそうだったから良かった」と笑った。
次の目標を問われ「（通算）３００号を打ちたいね」。こちらは残り１３本だ。
