あっぱれマー君！ 楽天田中将大投手（１８）が球団初の２ケタ１０勝目を飾った。西武１７回戦（フルキャスト宮城）に先発し、７回１失点。１０三振を奪い、今季通算１５１個と西武松坂（現レッドソックス）の１年目に早くも並んだ。楽天は８月最終戦を白星でフィニッシュ。月間１５勝目で、チームの月間最多勝利も更新した。節目には必ず登場する１８歳右腕。その姿に野村監督も神の子あらため「神サマ」と絶賛した。
