西武のルーキー木村文和投手（１８＝埼玉栄）がマー君への雪辱を誓った。河原の大乱調で２回にプロ初登板。最速１４８キロの速球は威力十分だったが、変化球でストライクが取れずに速球を痛打された。６回１０安打７失点（自責点４）。「力が入りすぎて自分の投球ができなかった」と苦いデビュー戦を振り返った。同じ１巡目ルーキーだが、楽天田中に力の差を見せ付けられた。「高校でも戦ったし、同期で負けたくないというのはあったけど、向こうは試合経験も積んでいる。学ぶものがいろいろあった。強気のマウンド、顔つきは高校の時から変わっていなかった」と素直に脱帽。「次に戦う機会があったら今回よりもいい投球をしたい」と早くも「再戦」に照準を定めた。
