今の巨人を象徴するような幕切れだった。９回１死一、二塁。１発出れば同点のチャンスで、代打大道が併殺打に倒れてゲームセット。どろ沼の５連敗で首位の座から陥落した。最下位広島に痛恨の３連敗に原監督は「打者は１点取ったら２点、２点取ったら３点を取りにいかないといけない。投手もここぞという場面で踏ん張らないといけない。そのへんの歯車がかみ合わない」と、もどかしさを口にした。
