巨人が自滅し４連敗を喫した。広島戦の同点で迎えた７回１死二、三塁と勝ち越しチャンスで、二塁走者の阿部慎之助捕手（２８）が隠し球でまさかのタッチアウト。試合の流れを相手に渡すと、９回に豊田清投手（３６）が痛打を浴びサヨナラ負けした。２位中日は阪神に完封勝ちし、巨人と１ゲーム差に迫った。阪神は連勝ストップで小休止。１６日に巨人が敗れ、中日が勝てば首位の座が入れ替わる。
