中日・落合監督は潔く負けを認めた。「点を取れないと勝てない。持てる力を出して負けた」とサバサバ。打線がわずか４安打、得点も谷繁のソロによる１点に終わった。「山井があそこまでよく放ってくれた」と同監督がいうように、１人で投げ切った山井の頑張りに打線が応えたかった。これで阪神戦は４連敗。０・５差にまで詰め寄られた。
