敗れた西武伊東監督が声を荒らげて激怒した。怒りの矛先は４三振を含む５打数無安打の４番カブレラだ。試合後の会見を拒否し「４番やからな。バットにも当たらん。情けないわ」と吐き捨てた。２点を追う７回２死一、二塁ではダルビッシュの前に３球三振、中島の適時打で１点差に追い上げた９回２死一塁でも空振り三振に倒れて最後の打者となった。いずれも追い上げムードで打席を迎え、１発出れば逆転の場面だっただけに落胆も大きかった。
