楽天は序盤の投壊で５月１日以来の最下位転落。野村監督は「単独か？ いいじゃない。定位置で。みんな落ち着くよ。尻がこそばゆくない」と淡々と受け止めた。先発し２回０／３を４失点のバスには「帰りのバスに乗せない！」と２軍降格を示唆。ラロッカ、ローズと２者連続本塁打を浴びた２番手の一場には、試合中もベンチで「去年から言うように、内角なら、ボールでいいというのが分からんのか」と説教。「先頭打者を出し過ぎ。ノー・シンキング・ベースボールだ。犯人は誰だ？ 野村だ。明日、白い紙と筆ペンを買ってきてくれ。何を書く？ 辞表だ」と言い残し、球場を後にした。
