ソフトバンク王監督が胃がんのため胃の全摘出手術を受けてから１年、４連勝を狙った日本ハム戦は不名誉な日本記録を伴う完封負けとなった。０－０で迎えた４回２死二、三塁。先発新垣がカウント２－２から１３７キロのスライダーで小谷野から空振り三振を奪った。だが、ワンバウンドの強烈な変化に捕手山崎がついて行けず、振り逃げ暴投。二塁走者まで生還し、今季２１個、プロ野球新記録となる暴投で一気に２点を失った。
