ヤクルト古田兼任監督が「監督専任」となって２連勝を飾った。勝利への欲求が、自然と足を動かした。９回のマウンドに上がった高津に、直接ボールを手渡しに向かった。「３回やって３回打たれることはない。思い切っていけ」。楽天戦はサヨナラ負けを含め２試合で４失点の守護神に暗示をかけた。高津が最後の打者ウィットからシンカーの連投で三振を奪うと、ベンチで激しくガッツポーズして喜んだ。
