新たな節目を迎えた古田ヤクルトが勝った。３点リードで迎えた最終回に１点差に迫られながら、からくも逃げ切った。“専任”となった古田監督は、恩師・野村監督と采配を振るい合った。６回、代打鈴木の代打に送った小野が中犠飛を放ち、貴重な追加点。前試合でサヨナラ安打を放った鈴木をあきらめ、先発朝井から左の吉田にスイッチした野村監督のお株を奪った。最終回は守備要員で起用した志田が、高須の左翼フェンス間際の大飛球を好捕。タクトがさえ渡った。
