原巨人がＯＢにささげる白星を飾った。８日の楽天戦（東京ドーム）試合前、川上哲治元監督（８７＝日刊スポーツ評論家）、巨人長嶋茂雄終身名誉監督（７１）ら６５年から９年連続で日本一に輝いたメンバーが、球団通算５０００勝記念セレモニーに参加。そのＶ９戦士が見守る中、当時の復刻版ユニホームでナインが発奮。２点差の６回にホリンズが７号逆転３ラン。９回には守護神・上原が３者連続三振で締めた。Ｖ９魂を引き継ぐ１勝で、連敗をストップさせた。
