右足内転筋痛で２軍調整を続けていた中日荒木雅博内野手が１軍に復帰した。５月２２日のロッテ戦（千葉マリン）の１回に二盗を試みた際に右足内転筋を痛め、翌２３日に出場選手登録を抹消された。当初は２軍でじっくりと調整する方針だったが、中村紀が右太もも裏の肉離れで戦線離脱し、内野が手薄になったことで２軍戦に２試合出場しただけで再昇格となった。「１番二塁」で先発出場した荒木は試合前「リニューアルして頑張ります」と話していた。
