ヤクルトに勢いが出てきた。西武に連勝して６月は４勝１敗。この日は投打の要が、チームを引っ張った。２日連続の先制打で勢いをつけたのは、野手の主将宮本。１回２死一、二塁から８球粘り、ルーキー岸の１４３キロ直球を中越え二塁打。５回は２死満塁から右前２点適時打を放ち、リードを４点に広げた。「前のガイエルが歩かされたので『おれで勝負か』と気合が入りました」と振り返った。つなぎ役タイプが、チーム事情で５番を任されている。古田兼任監督は「宮本さんはポイントゲッター。このために置いている。いい働きをしてくれた」と褒めちぎった。
