中日は２－０とリードした９回に守護神岩瀬も投入したが、２失策１野選で４点を失い３連敗。９回、先発朝倉が初めての連打を浴びて無死一、二塁。落合監督は守護神を投入した。だが、守備固めの一塁渡辺がバントの処理を三塁送球（野選）で無死満塁。１死後、リックの犠飛で１点差。代打鷹野に同点右前打を浴びると、鉄平の二ゴロを森野が一塁へ悪送球。さらにこれを渡辺が本塁へ悪送球で２失点。これでチーム失策は「３１」でリーグワーストを独走中。「こういう試合はあれだよ。監督のミスで負けた。あとは何もない」。落合監督はそれだけを言い残した。
