巨人守護神の上原が初めて負けた。同点で迎えた延長１１回、先頭打者ラロッカに死球を与えた後だった。フォークボールのすっぽ抜けが死球になっただけに、打席のローズはストレート狙い。相手は４番打者。上原でなければ力勝負は避けたかもしれない。初球だった。シュートをかけようとした直球は高めに浮き、右翼スタンド上段の看板まではじき返された。
