阪神の先発杉山が大誤算だった。初回、いきなり西岡に死球を与えると無死一、二塁で福浦に右中間にライナーではじき返され、先制２点適時二塁打を許した。２死二塁ではベニーに中前適時打を浴びて、いきなり３失点。２回にも歯止めが利かず、さらに４失点。今季最短の１回２／３でＫＯされた。「序盤からリズムを崩してしまい野手の皆さんに申し訳ないです。今日はそれだけです…」。７失点の惨状にうなだれていた。
