野村楽天がサヨナラ勝ちで古田ヤクルトに連勝した。２３日のヤクルト２回戦（宮城）はルーキー田中の序盤ＫＯから始まり、終盤は両軍が執念を見せて延長戦に突入。最後は野手総動員の楽天が“ラスト起用”となった高須のサヨナラ打で５－４と振り切った。これで延長戦は５戦４勝１分け。粘り強さが出てきた楽天は５割浮上まで、あと２勝。一方、ヤクルトは１７年ぶりの借金１４と迷走している。
