遅咲きの男が、思い出の球場で大輪を咲かせた。日本ハム田中幸雄内野手（３９）が１７日、楽天１２回戦（東京ドーム）の４回に山村から右前打を放ち、プロ野球史上３５人目の２０００本安打を達成。この日３安打で通算２００２安打と伸ばした。プロ２２年目ながら、シーズン打率３割以上は１度もない。清原（オリックス）桑田（パイレーツ）ら華やかな同期に比べて地味な男は、着実に安打を積み重ねた。プロ入りから１８年間を過ごした前本拠地の東京ドームには、大仕事をやってのけた晴れやかな笑顔があった。
