エースが“臨時ストッパー”となって、帰ってきた。巨人上原浩治投手（３２）が４月３０日のヤクルト６回戦（神宮）で９回、今季初のマウンドに上がった。大差の状況で１点を失う調整登板だったが、４月を首位で終えた巨人に頼れる右腕が復帰した。９－３と快勝し、先発の高橋尚成投手（３２）も７回２失点で５勝目。開幕５戦５勝は、スタルヒン、桑田に次ぐ巨人史上３人目の快挙。巨人の通算５０００勝まで「あと２」となった。
