前日１７日の試合中に右ひざを打撲した巨人阿部が、首脳陣に直訴して先発出場した。負傷から一夜明けても足を引きずるほどの痛みが残っていたが、阿部は「大丈夫です」と試合前練習に元気に参加。大事を取って欠場させるつもりだった原監督は「本人が出たいと言ってきた。大丈夫でしょう」と、先発メンバーに名前を書き込んだ。
