帝京（東京）と大垣日大（希望枠＝岐阜）がベスト４に勝ち進み、２日の準決勝第２試合で対決する。第１試合は常葉菊川（静岡）－熊本工（熊本）で、いずれも古豪対新鋭の顔合わせとなった。帝京は初回、１イニング２発などで一挙６点を挙げ、広陵（広島）を７－１で下した。初出場の大垣日大は、５季連続と甲子園常連の関西（岡山）を９－１で破った。希望枠出場校の４強進出は初めて。
