初出場の小城（佐賀）が帝京のエース大田阿斗里（３年）の前に２０三振を奪われ大差で敗れた。エース井手大奨（３年）は初回、制球に苦しみ押し出しの３点を含む６失点。井手大は「立ち上がりは力が入りすぎて腕が縮こまってしまった。大田君は球が伸びていてすごくいい投手だった。全国のレベルをあらためて感じました」と帝京との実力差を痛感していた。
