巨人の木佐貫洋投手（２６）が開幕ローテ入りに王手をかけた。ヤクルトとのオープン戦（宇都宮）に先発し、６回を投げ被安打は青木に打たれた２本だけで無失点に抑えた。しかも４回は、一塁走者の青木をけん制で殺した。オープン戦通算３試合１４イニング、自責１と安定感が光る。下半身に不安を抱える上原が２軍調整中に加え、パウエルも右ひざ痛で米国へ緊急帰国して手薄な先発枠へ、木佐貫が救世主として滑り込む。
