オリックスのタフィー・ローズ外野手（３８＝レッズ）が国内復帰後のオープン戦初安打をタイムリーで飾った。「４番右翼」で出場し、初回２死一塁の場面で川島亮投手（２５）から左翼線へ適時二塁打。内角高めのボール球に止めたバットだったが、幸運にも打球はフェアゾーンにはずんだ。「カーブを待っていたんだけど…。本当にラッキーです」。６回には評判の高卒ルーキー増渕竜義投手（１８＝鷲宮）の１４４キロ速球を中前へクリーンヒット。１１日のデビュー戦（対横浜）は無安打だった４番候補が、２安打１打点と調子を上げてきた。
